The BMW M3 F80 represents the return of BMW Motorsport for the M3 to the 6 cylinders engine, but also the passage to turbo-charging. BMW claims 431hp for the new 3.0 twin-turbo unit, a value that resulted quite conservative during our dyno tests.
The stock exhaust system, diameter 2xØ65mm, is composed by two turbo downpipes with integrated metallic pre-catalytic converter, a front section with two additional cats, a small resonator on the centre section and a rear muffler fitted with electrical bypass valves controlled by the ECU.
The Supersprint high performance system replaces the pre-cats with catless downpipes, a solution already adopted successfully on the Ex 335i and 1M. This allows a nice power increase and lower temperatures.
The secondary cats in the front section are replaced as well, by two HJS 100 CPSI metallic units.
On the rear muffler the functionality of the valves remains unchanged. The OEM electric motors just need to be unbolted from the valve and fitted to the new valves of the Supersprint system. The exhaust is designed to offer the same performance in open and closed modes, with the highest difference in sound between them. E.E.C. homologation pending.
The tailpipes are 90mm, chromed, lipped and slash cut, to fill the valances perfectly with a sporty but elegant look. Alternative finishes (black, satin silver) are available on request.
If you want an aggressive sound and are willing to sacrifice the valve functionality for a weight reduction, a "Race" rear section is available.
